Sign Community - British Deaf Associaton

The British Deaf Association invites Schools and Organisations to LEARN TO SIGN!

The BDA's Learn to Sign Week kicks off on 4th - 10th October 2010, and is an ideal opportunity for school children, teachers and organisations to develop new language and communication skills and encourage people to create a more inclusive society where Deaf and hearing people are equal.

Schools
For the first time ever schools can take part in Learn to Sign Week through an exclusive DVD resource packed with BSL phrases and fun learning resources. The introduction of the new DVD will make it much easier for teachers to access and schedule BSL sessions to suit their curriculum needs.

Each school which registers to take part in Learn to Sign Week will receive the exclusive DVD at a cost of £50, giving schools flexible access to the valuable resource all year-round.

Organisations
Learn to Sign Week is an opportunity for staff in organisations to develop new language and interpersonal skills. Perhaps a member of staff in your office is Deaf and colleagues would like to communicate better with them in their first language? Or if your staff work in a customer-facing role, they may meet Deaf people at work and want to be able to assist them?

Get a Tailored BSL Taster session when you register! Your organisation will receive a 2 hour tailored BSL taster session at the discounted rate of £200 (usual cost £450). You can train up to 15 members of your organisation in introductory British Sign Language. This fantastic session will be delivered by a culturally Deaf BSL user.

Fundraising
By taking part in Learn to Sign Week and fundraising for the BDA, you will be supporting our ongoing work campaigning for the rights of Deaf people to use Sign Language in education and have access to everyday information in BSL. Your fundraising will help us to fund important projects working with Deaf children and youth around the UK and to support our ongoing campaign to give all Deaf children the right to receive bilingual education, using BSL and English.
