BSL Courses at British Deaf Association Wales

BSL Taster Session
These two-hour sessions teach participants how to carry out a basic conversation in BSL. This includes exchanging details such as your name, where you live, where you work, your job, how you get to work (transport) and other information.

The cost of the taster session will be £25 per person, which includes tuition, information sheets, a certificate and a BSL mug, umbrella or a mousemat, or £20 if no mug, umbrella or mousemat required.

Introduction to BSL Intensive 5 week course (6th week - assessment)
This 20-hour course is usually taught over 10 weeks although we are currently running an intensive course, which condenses 20 hours into 5 weeks. The introduction course offers learners the opportunity to learn some useful everyday BSL. Learners will have the chance to have their skills assessed and receive certificates.

The cost of the course will be £100, which includes tuition, handbook, DVD and exam.

We are able to offer taster sessions and BSL courses tailored specifically for your organisation. It requires a minimum of 10 participants (maximum 14) and can be held in Your Work Place or at the Deaf Association Wales Cultural Centre. Deaf Equality Training:
By now we're all aware of The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). Public bodies, private and voluntary service providers, and businesses now have new statutory duties to promote disability equality.

Deaf Equality Training Facilitate understanding of Deaf Culture allowing professionals to meet their obligations to provide equality in their services and encourage cultural Deaf BSL users to be recognised as citizens: collectively equal in rights, duties and status to all groups in society.

The course consists of one half day training with presentation, discussion, quizzes, group work, and feedback. Each participant who submits their portfolio will receive a certificate showing they have attended training by Deaf Association Wales (subject to passing the assessment). Deaf Equality Training is an OCN Accredited Course Level 2

The cost of the course is £45 per person, which includes tuition, student packs (containing valuable learning resources for future reference) and assessment.
