  • BSL Frontline Training
  • BSL Curriculum and Assessment Training for BSL Teachers

The British Sign Language Service has established regional BSL Teacher Support Groups (TSGs) for each of the BDA Area Deaf Associations.

Aims the service:

- To provide:

  • High quality teaching and assessment resources;
  • BSL training for BSL teachers;
  • BSL curriculum and assessments for BSL teachers;

- To create and provide:

  • BSL curriculum DVDs for BSL teachers;
  • BSL curriculum DVDs (BSL resources) for learners.

- To establish the BSL Academy website for BSL teachers, with information available in BSL.

Why should you use our service?

  • Our BSL curriculum delivery standards have been established by Deaf people.
  • No other organisation has a BSL Academy or similar, and it is Deaf led.
  • The Institute of BSL, which accredits our training courses, is also Deaf-led.
  • We believe in BSL ownership – i.e. BSL should be owned and controlled by the Deaf community.
  • Local assessors are provided by each of the Area Deaf Associations.
  • A BSL Cultural Development Officer is available at each of the Area Deaf Associations.
