Sign Community - British Deaf Associaton

This project researches the Deaf community's health needs and provides information in the form of workshops and information sessions. It also works closely with health professionals in order to ensure Deaf-friendly services.

In October(2007), the Deaf Association of Northern Ireland organised a one-day blood pressure open clinic. Someone from Gordon Chemist volunteered to deliver this opportunity. Over 15 Deaf people visited the office to have their blood pressure tested. Three of them were advised to see their GPs due to high blood pressure.

Newry Deaf Club hosted workshops on Breast/Cervical Awareness and Prostate and Testicular Cancer Awareness. Both speakers came along from Action Cancer (interpreters were provided). The workshops were successful, attended by over 40 Deaf people.
