Sign Community - British Deaf Associaton

All courses will eventually be taught by the Academy's trained and qualified Teachers of British Sign Language.

British Sign Language Awareness (10 Hours)

Tailor made courses for anyone interested in finding out more about the language of the Deaf Community in the UK. Courses are designed to raise awareness of British Sign Language and history's place in the lives of Deaf people. Highly recommended for people who live and work with Deaf people but anyone is welcome.

Introduction to British Sign Language (20 Hours)

Introduction to British Sign Language (usually over 10 weeks but can be tailor made to suit students' needs.) The course offers students the opportunity to learn some everyday sign language. At the end of the course, you have an opportunity to receive a certificate having gone through an assessment of your skills.

Foundation Level British Sign Language (40 Hours)

An addition to the Introduction to British Sign Language course (usually over 20 weeks but can be tailor made to suit students' needs). The course offers students the opportunity to develop their everyday sign language use. At the end of the course, you will have an opportunity to undertake assessment of your skills and receive a certificate. (You must undertake the Introduction to BSL before you are able to join this course).


Intermediate Level British Sign Language (180 Hours)

Intermediate BSL course (usually over 30 weeks but can be tailor made to suit students' needs.) The course offers students the opportunity to further develop their everyday sign language incorporating BSL grammar at greater depth. At the end of the course, you will have an opportunity to undertake assessment of your skills and receive a certificate. (You must undertake the Foundation Level BSL before you are able to join this course).

Advanced Level British Sign Language (120 hours)

Advanced BSL (usually over 40 weeks but can be tailor made to suit students' needs.) The course offers students the opportunity to further develop their sign language skills incorporating BSL grammar at an advanced level that could deal with most domain areas. At the end of the course, you will have an opportunity to undertake assessment of your skills and receive a certificate. (You must undertake the Intermediate Level BSL before you are able to join this course).
