All courses will eventually be taught by the Academy's trained and qualified Teachers of British Sign Language.

British Sign Language Awareness

These 10-hour tailor made courses are for anyone interested in finding out more about the language of the Deaf community in the UK. Courses are designed to raise awareness of BSL and history's place in the lives of Deaf people. They are highly recommended for people who live and work with Deaf people, but anyone is welcome.

Introduction to British Sign Language

This 20-hour course is usually taught over 10 weeks, but can be tailor made to suit learners' needs, offering offers learners the opportunity to learn some everyday BSL. At the end of the course, you will have an opportunity to receive a certificate, having gone through an assessment of your skills.

Foundation Level British Sign Language

A 40-hour addition to the Introduction to BSL course, this is usually taught over 20 weeks but can be tailor made to suit learners' needs. This course offers learners the opportunity to develop their everyday BSL use. At the end of the course, you will have an opportunity to undertake assessment of your skills and receive a certificate (you must undertake Introduction to BSL before you are able to join this course).

Intermediate Level British Sign Language

The 180-hour Intermediate BSL course is usually taught over 60 weeks but can be tailor made to suit learners' needs. This course offers learners the opportunity to further develop their everyday signing skills, incorporating BSL grammar at greater depth. At the end of the course, you will have an opportunity to undertake assessment of your skills and receive a certificate.(you must undertake Foundation Level BSL before you are able to join this course).

Advanced Level British Sign Language

The 120-hour Advanced BSL course is usually taught over 40 weeks, but can be tailor made to suit learners' needs. It offers learners the opportunity to further develop their BSL skills, incorporating BSL grammar at an advanced level to deal with most domains. At the end of the course, you will have an opportunity to undertake assessment of your skills and receive a certificate (you must undertake Intermediate Level BSL before you are able to join this course).
