Sign Community - British Deaf Associaton

In our Northern Ireland board area, our Community Advocacy Officer, Majella McAteer works closely with the Deaf community and service providers.  Majella aims to empower and enable Deaf people through increased self-esteem, to ensure service provision is more accessible.

'Advocacy' means 'active support'. It comes in many forms: peer advocacy, personal advocacy, legal advocacy, citizen advocacy and community advocacy.

Community advocacy is what happens when the Deaf community consult with public services to improve thier access and quality.
