Sign Community - British Deaf Associaton

5th to 11th October 2009

Every year the British Deaf Association (BDA) holds a National event to help raise awareness and encourage people to learn British Sign Language (BSL).

Learn to Sign Week campaign 2009 is an opportunity for staff and friends in organisations to develop new language and interpersonal skills.  Perhaps there is someone in your office who is Deaf and you would like to be able to communicate better with them?  Or if you work in a customer-facing role you may come across Deaf people at work and want to be able to assist them?

By registering to take part in the campaign as an organisation you will need to raise a minimum of £200 through fundraising activities. Once you have registered you will have access to our new website and learn a daily phrase in British Sign Language (BSL). By the end of Learn to Sign Week those participating should be able to communicate with each other using introductory BSL signs.

The British Deaf Association is a charity organisation run by Deaf people for Deaf people. Sign Language is a language of space and movement using the hands, body, face and head.

What benefits you will receive:

1. The opportunity to acquire a new language skill.

2. Certificate for each person (downloadable).

3. Your organisation will also receive a certificate outlining your commitment to BSL Awareness and to our Learn to Sign Week campaign. Certificates will be full colour and sent via post upon receipt of your organisation's fundraising monies.
