Glaucoma is an eye condition where the optic nerve, which connects the eye to the brain, becomes damaged. If it is not diagnosed and treated, it can lead to loss of vision.

Most types of glaucoma develop slowly and may not cause obvious symptoms at first. This is why regular eye tests are important, especially if an optometrist has told you that you are at increased risk.

Getting help and treatment

Glaucoma is usually managed by an eye specialist. Treatment aims to prevent further damage and may include eye drops, laser treatment or surgery, depending on the type of glaucoma and your individual needs.
