Heritage and culture

The Deaf Museum

The Deaf Museum preserves, celebrates and shares the history, culture and achievements of Deaf people in the UK.

Based at Manchester Deaf Centre, the Museum cares for a national collection of artefacts, photographs, artworks and archives reflecting Deaf life, identity and British Sign Language across generations.

The Deaf Museum forms part of the British Deaf Association’s national heritage programme. It is not a regional office and does not provide frontline services; its role is cultural, educational and historical.
