BDA Cymru provides information, advice and community engagement for Deaf people and organisations across Wales.

Our team also works with partners and the Welsh Government on health, public policy and the implementation of the BSL (Wales) Act.

BSL Helpline

Deaf adults living in Wales, and organisations or groups interested in becoming Deaf-friendly, can contact us in BSL or English.

You can ask us about any topic. We provide information, advice and guidance across a wide range of issues. When we cannot answer directly, we will signpost or refer you to the right person or service.

Community Engagement

Our Community Engagement Officers, Ben Culleton and Jenna Shenton, can visit Deaf clubs and events, share current information and provide an in-person helpline service.

Deaf Health Wales

BDA Cymru is a co-investigator on Deaf Health Wales, a major Deaf-led research project led by Bangor University.

The project explores the hidden inequalities faced by Deaf BSL signers when accessing NHS health services in Wales. BDA Cymru Manager Martin Griffiths co-leads the Interpreting Services Hub with Cathryn Booth from Action Deafness Cymru.

Cross Party Group on Deaf Issues

BSL Stakeholder Group

The BDA co-chairs the BSL Stakeholder Group, working with the Welsh Government to produce recommendations for short-, medium- and long-term action to improve access for Deaf BSL signers.

BDA Cymru is working with the Welsh Government BSL Policy Team to support implementation of the BSL (Wales) Act.
