About stroke
A stroke happens when blood stops flowing to part of the brain. It is a medical emergency and needs urgent hospital treatment.
Know the FAST signs
Remember FAST: Face weakness, Arm weakness, Speech problems, Time to call 999. Other sudden symptoms can include numbness or weakness on one side, vision problems, confusion, dizziness or a severe headache.
Treatment and recovery
Call 999 immediately if you think someone is having, or has recently had, a stroke, even if the symptoms have stopped. Hospital treatment depends on the type of stroke and may include medicines or procedures. Rehabilitation can help people recover skills and adapt after a stroke.
