Stop Loan Sharks
The British Deaf Association (BDA) is pleased to announce that they are working with the Illegal Money Lending Team in England to deliver a series of workshops for the Deaf Community in the Midlands in autumn 2020. These workshops will be delivered by Zoom and will be an opportunity to find out about the Stop Loan Shark campaign. We will discuss how to identify an illegal moneylender and to ensure that the Deaf community are using reputable lending sources.
The BDA are delighted to working with the Illegal Money Lending Team to ensure that the Deaf Community in Midlands have access to this important information. Through our previous work we have identified that Deaf people need access to information which need to be delivered in British Sign Language.
The BDA will be contacting various Deaf groups in the Nottingham, Leicester, Derbyshire and the West Midlands areas to arrange to deliver an information session via Zoom. The Deaf groups will include social evening groups or any groups that have been set up to keep Deaf people in touch with each other.
For any Deaf groups, forums, coffee morning groups or specific interest groups that are interested in having a workshop about illegal money lending please contact Robin Ash at the BDA. His contact details can be found at the bottom of this page. We will be delivering these workshops until the end of December 2020.
We would like to thank the Illegal Money Lending Team for supporting the BDA to be able to deliver this information to ensure that the Deaf Community know how to protect themselves from illegal moneylenders.

Illegal Money Lending Team
The BDA Midlands have been fortunate to be in receipt of funding and the opportunity to work with England Illegal Money Lending Team to deliver a series of Zoom workshops with various Deaf groups across the Midlands to explain about their Stop Loan Shark Campaign. This gave Deaf people the opportunity to ask questions about this subject and some of these questions were put forward to a representative from the Illegal Money Lending Team in a Zoom interview. They were able to explain about the Stop Loan Shark Campaign and to respond to questions raised in the various workshops that have taken place.
