About bowel cancer

Bowel cancer is cancer found in the large bowel, which includes the colon and rectum. It can affect people in different ways, and symptoms can also be caused by conditions that are not cancer.

Signs and symptoms

Possible symptoms include blood in your poo or bleeding from your bottom, a lasting change in how often or how you poo, tummy pain or bloating, losing weight without trying, and unusual tiredness. If you notice new or persistent bowel symptoms, speak to a GP.

Getting help and treatment

Tests may include a colonoscopy and scans. Treatment depends on where the cancer is, its stage and your general health. It may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy or targeted medicines.
