About seasonal affective disorder
Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that follows a seasonal pattern. For most people it happens during autumn and winter, although some people are affected at other times of year.
Signs and symptoms
Symptoms are similar to other forms of depression and may include persistent low mood, loss of interest or pleasure, low energy, changes in sleep or appetite, difficulty concentrating and feeling less sociable.
Getting help and treatment
Speak to a GP if you think you may have SAD and it is affecting your daily life. Treatment can include talking therapies, antidepressants and light therapy, depending on your symptoms and what is suitable for you.
