BDA’s MPs Questionnaire

BDA’s MP QUESTIONNAIRE PROJECT SURVEY

Dear Member / Supporter,

My name is Paul Ntulila and I am working with David Buxton on BDA campaigns projects. My main task is to focus on the new “BDA’s MPs Questionnaire” which David has set up. The aim of this project is to:

  1. Encourage MPs to respond to the Questionnaire in order for us to find out what each one knows about Deaf people and British Sign Language and whether they would be willing to support BDA campaigns relating to a legal status for BSL and Deaf Education.

  2. Ask Deaf individuals and Sign Language supporters to contact their own MPs to urge them to respond to the Questionnaire.

  3. When we have all their responses we will write a simple report on what MPs know about Deaf people, British Sign Language and Deaf Education. We will also know which MPs we would like Deaf individuals and BSL supporters to target for support.

I would very much appreciate it if you would take a moment to contact your local MP via email letter (see sample below) or, if you would prefer, email me your full address and postcode and I will prepare a draft email letter on your behalf for you to send direct to your local MP.

The more people we have supporting us, the stronger our campaigns will be for a legal status for BSL and better Deaf Education. With your help we can influence the decision makers in Parliament and start to make a real difference.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you very soon.

Kind regards,

Paul Ntulila
BDA Campaigns Volunteer

Dear ……

BRITISH DEAF ASSOCIATION – MPs QUESTIONNAIRE

I am a Deaf / Sign Language user living in your constituency and I am looking for your support on issues that are important to me relating to Deaf people, Deaf children and lack of access to British Sign Language.

I would like to be able to meet with you at your local surgery on a regular basis to discuss these issues which are unique to myself and other Deaf / Sign Language users living in the constituency. I feel this would be beneficial in helping you to understand us more and be informed enough to support us properly in Parliament.

But first I would be interested to discover how much you know about Deaf people and British Sign Language. I would be very grateful if you could please respond to the BDA’s MPs Questionnaire: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BDA-MP-Quest.

I am a supporter of the work of the British Deaf Association and they are keen to provide more support and information to MPs, so that you can be better informed and more supportive of Deaf people and their first language, British Sign Language.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,
