BT Sport has launched ‘Sign Up’ – a new initiative that aims to raise the profile of the deaf community within sport, help make its programming accessible to all, and create new opportunities.

We were extremely concerned to learn that this excellent specialist deaf unit in Islington is under threat for what appears to be purely budgetary reasons. Parents are rightly up in arms, and they must be listened to; they know what is right for their children, because they can see the benefits of their children being surrounded by their deaf peers every day, and learning in a language that is accessible to them.

The BDA’s vision to Protect, Preserve and Promote British Sign Language (BSL) and Irish Sign Language (ISL) in Northern Ireland conforms to the United Nations ethos that “disability inclusion is an essential condition to upholding human rights” and that includes Deaf people who use BSL and ISL.
