British Deaf Association is seeking a new Treasurer

getimage

The BDA is the largest organisation in the UK that is run by deaf people for deaf people. We have four exciting new departments focusing on community development, campaigns, communications and commercial. We provide projects across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Our 125th year celebrations begin this summer.

The Treasurer plays a significant role in the BDA governance team. We are looking for a highly committed individual with excellent financial management experience and qualifications who will be able to attend regular meetings, engage in the wider purpose of the organisation and act as a positive and active member of the Board.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to make a real difference within a Board of Trustees . We are ambitious and proactive, and need a treasurer who will bring energy and commitment to this role and to the BDA as a whole. Working collaboratively is vital: our Treasurer will be someone who can demonstrate that they are able to work in partnership with others and build positive relationships.

As Treasurer, you will work closely with the Officers Group, chair quarterly finance meetings and meet once a month with the Director of Community Development & Operations and Head Office Manager for a financial update. We are a medium sized charity, and Charity sector experience is preferable. We do require the Treasurer to be able to empathise and manage the financial pressures that exist within a medium sized organisation.

Ideally we are looking for someone who is experienced both in trusteeship and leadership but are willing to explore possibilities. As Treasurer you will have:

  1. Relevant financial qualifications or extensive financial management experience and a willingness to be available for advice and enquires when required
  2. Some charity finance, fundraising and pensions experience
  3. Good financial analysis skills
  4. A preparedness to make unpopular recommendations to the board
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  6. Experience of financial leadership

Experience and knowledge of deaf culture, community and language (BSL) is desirable.

This post is voluntary but expenses for attending meetings will be covered.

If you are interested in this role, please send your CV with a covering letter to: David Buxton, Company Secretary, British Deaf Association, 356 Holloway Road, London N7 6PA. Or email directorCC@bda.org.uk

Closing date: Friday 31st July 2015 (4pm)
