Hello,
I’m David Buxton - from the BDA Board of Trustees.
On 24th February 2021, Mark Isherwood, MS for North Wales introduced a motion to the Senedd – the Welsh Parliament. This was for a ‘Member’s Legislative Proposal for a British Sign Language Bill for Wales’.
The BDA contacted Mark, and inside 24 hours, produced a video, and a promotional campaign asking you to contact your MS to support the motion, and, booked an interpreter for the Senedd. It was very important to us that there was an interpreter there.
We are delighted that the motion had unanimous approval.
But this is only the start of a long journey.
So what happens now? What are the next steps? Well, I’m delighted to tell you that Mark has agreed to join me and two Deaf people in a Facebook LiveStream event on Thursday 25th March 2021 from 11am to 12noon. Yes, this Thursday! If you can’t join us or miss it, you can catch up on Facebook later.
This is where you will get clear and accurate information about what the Proposal actually means, what the next steps are and what you can do. Questions to Mark will come from Deaf community member, Hazel Rutherford, and, BDA Cymru staff member, Fiona Nicholson. Your questions are welcome too.
Please join us this Thursday on our Facebook page at 11am!
