It was with great pleasure that BDA Scotland hosted ‘Your Views: BSL National Plan 2017 – 2023’ in Glasgow.
The event was attended by representatives from Councils and NHS services as well as Deaf community members.
It was a wonderful, informative and successful event, many highlighting positive examples of good practices across Scotland where Deaf people are working collaboratively with Public Services. Deaf people on the panel at the event shared their personal experiences, which sparked some very interesting conversations, and everyone was able to contribute to the valuable discussions that took place. This was an opportunity for people to review the BSL National Plan ahead of the governmental review set for next year, 2023.
Davie Morrison, Participation and Equalities Manager at NHS 24 and Alyia Zaheed, Equality Officer at East Ayrshire Council, gave presentations, sharing examples of good practice related to the BSL National Plan. It was good to see progress in the development of access BSL resources and with engagement with Deaf community members in Scotland.
Please see this BSL video to learn more about the event and see feedback.
BDA Scotland would like to thank The Scottish Government, and the Equality & Human Rights Fund (EHRF) for funding this project.
This event was one of the many ways we are celebrating the passing with the Royal Assent of the BSL (Scotland) Act 2015 on 22 October 2015.
