The British Deaf Association (BDA) has condemned the “life-threatening communication failures” experienced every day by Deaf British Sign Language (BSL) users in the NHS, after the latest tragic incident in which a Deaf woman from Derby found out by accident that her husband had died, as paramedics could not communicate with her and no BSL interpreter was provided.

Leicestershire Covid-19 Project
It is with great thanks to the support from Leicestershire County Council, the BDA have established and are running a Covid 19 project for Leicestershire Deaf community. This is to provide information, advice and support to Deaf people who live in Leicestershire for both adults and young people to ensure that all have access to information about what is happening locally in response to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The British Deaf Association wrote to the Prime Minister on 31st March 2020 asking for his invention to ensure televised sign language interpretations of the official briefings are relayed on BBC1. This is the only channel accessible to all.
