Dr Terry Riley OBE – Chair

Vimeo Video https://www.vimeo.com/52075165

Dr Terry Riley OBE was born into a Deaf family; both his parents were Deaf and sign language users. He has been a staunch supporter and member of BDA for over 50 years. He is an advocate for BSL for over 40 years and has been instrumental in bringing the language and Deaf culture to mainstream society. He has also been an advocate for Deaf Human Rights, travelling around the world for 40 years to ensure that the Deaf community has a ‘voice’.

Terry has a wealth of experience in Deaf Television, working up from a researcher at See Hear to become its first Deaf Editor in 2000. He has given several presentations and workshops throughout his career as well as acting as a speaker at various conferences.

Terry was elected to the World Federation of the Deaf Board of Trustees in 2011 and is seeking re-election for the 2015-2019 Board. He was elected as Vice President of the European Union of the Deaf and served on the EUD Board for over 10 years. He was also awarded “The Order of the British Empire” by HM The Queen New Years’ Honours’ List in January 2014.
