Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have been very approachable when discussing issues faced by Deaf patients this has led to changes being made within the hospital that not only benefit Deaf people but other hard to reach groups from the community. Deaf people now understand how and are making their views known to the Trust through the Health deaf forums organised by Derby Deaf Forum and BDA which in turn has greatly improved the Deaf persons patient experience.
Following the advice from Robin Ash, the BDA’s Access & Inclusion Officer, simple adaptations have enabled Deaf people to be independent and confident when accessing facilitates at the hospital and, therefore, reduce stress, anxiety and confusion which can lead to further health issues.
