Hello,
My name is David Buxton and I am the Chair of the BDA.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Rebecca Mansell as the new CEO of the BDA. Rebecca will start at the end of this month. See Rebecca’s message to you.
Hello, my name is Rebecca Mansell.
I am very honoured to accept this new role as Chief Executive. I am very much looking forward to working with staff, volunteers, members and our wider stakeholders.
The BDA is the oldest UK-wide Deaf charity run by, and for, Deaf people, which, since its inception in 1890, has been fighting for BSL recognition, and, inclusion and equality in the wider society.
As a Deaf person, I bring lived experience which has driven my career in the field of Deaf services including Director of Fundraising for SignHealth, Head of Services for Deafplus, and more recently, Fundraising Manager for Sense International,
I want to bring my experience to the BDA, increasing, strengthening and safeguarding our Sign Language work across the UK. I’m looking forward to the challenge and hope I can count on your support.
Thank you.
I hope you will join me in welcoming Rebecca to the BDA. She joins at an exciting time for us as we get ever-closer to achieving a BSL Act. It’s a good time to remember the key words from Dorothy Miles’ famous sign song:
‘The BDA is You and Me,
Together, we fight for Equality.’
Thank you.
