‘Learn, grow and flourish’

Frank Barnes is an innovative and exciting bilingual school for profoundly deaf children (aged 2 to 11) with a national and international reputation as a centre of excellence in Deaf Education. Our school is rated Outstanding by Ofsted in every category. The ethos of the school is to have high expectations for every child and that everybody involved is committed to real learning and progress.

We currently have 5 classes and capacity for up to 45 children in a brand new building, co-located with Kings Cross Academy in central London, a short distance from St Pancras International Station with good rail links across London and beyond.

The school is at an exciting phase of its development as it is now situated within the Kings Cross regeneration project and has access to amazing partnerships with its new neighbours, the Guardian, University of the Arts, House of Illustration, Google, Eurostar, British Library and many more.

Due to the retirement of our Outstanding Headteacher the Governors are seeking to appoint a passionate, innovative and visionary leader who:

  • Is passionate about working with bi-lingual deaf children
  • Has a proven record of successful leadership at a senior level in a deaf or mainstream school
  • Is able to lead a wide range of deaf and hearing staff and communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including Kings Cross Academy
  • Proven record of leading curriculum design and innovation that reflects the needs of deaf children
  • Experience of working with Governors, parents, the local authority, Deaf organisations and other agencies

We can offer:

  • A dedicated and inspirational staff team
  • A positive and inclusive school community
  • Support from an outstanding Governing Body and the Camden School Led Partnership
  • An exciting opportunity to build on the exceptional practice of the school
  • Sign Language training to Level 6

We are committed to:

  • Developing our sign bilingual practice
  • Employing deaf and hearing staff in partnership to raise the achievement of deaf children
  • Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of deaf children in our care

The Governing Body actively encourages all candidates to visit the school prior to interviews. Please telephone the school office to arrange an appointment with the current Headteacher.

Applicants for the post will be subject to stringent vetting and induction processes.
