We would like to express our serious concerns regarding the exponential growth in online content created by hearing people using “sign supported communication systems” or “language programmes” that incorporate signs, such as Signalong, Makaton and Baby Signs.

It’s #Pride Month!
June is Pride month in the UK and around the world – a month dedicated to celebrating LGBTQIA+ communities, their struggles and their achievements. At the British Deaf Association, we are incredibly proud of our staff and trustees, half of whom come from the LGBTQIA+ community.
Dementia Action Week 2022
This week, the BDA is supporting Dementia Action Week 2022, a national campaign led by the Alzheimer’s Society.
From 16-22 May, we will be highlighting the unique social, cultural and linguistic needs of Deaf British Sign Language signers living with dementia.
BSL Bill Passes Third Reading
This afternoon, the House of Lords passed the Bill on its third and final reading with no amendments. The next step is for the Bill to receive Royal Assent from the Queen, and it will then pass into British law. We expect that to happen by the end of the week.
