We are delighted to announce that the BSL Act Now! campaign has won the "Campaign of the Year" award from the Sheila McKechnie Foundation!
This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of Deaf people involved in the campaign, from the British Deaf Association (BDA) to the individual BSL users who wrote to their MPs. We are so grateful for the support of the Deaf community and everyone who helped us to make this campaign a success.
The BSL Act Now! campaign was launched in March 2021 with the goal of securing legal status for British Sign Language (BSL) in the UK. After a year of hard work, the campaign was successful in getting a BSL Bill introduced to Parliament. The Bill received Royal Assent in May 2022, making BSL an official language in the UK.
We are proud to have played a role in this historic moment for the Deaf community. The BSL Act Now! campaign has shown that when we come together, we can achieve great things. We are committed to continuing to work to ensure that BSL is fully recognized and respected in the UK.
