BDA secures funding for new Advocacy and Empowerment project for Deaf people

The BDA has received £397,967 from the Big Lottery Fund to enhance the ability and confidence of deaf people to overcome disadvantage faced in achieving the same life outcomes as hearing people.

BDA welcomes Ofcom’s decision on the Sign Language TV

The British Deaf Association warmly welcomes the positive action from Ofcom to increase the broadcasters’ obligations from 30 minutes each month to 75 minutes per month to provide sign-presented TV programmes, starting from January 2016.

Ofcom recently updated signing obligations for smaller TV channels broadcasting in the UK

Since 2007, channels with an audience TV viewing share between 0.05% and 1% (‘relevant channels’) have been required to show 30 minutes of programmes each month presented in BSL.
