World Mental Health Day

Today is World Mental Health Day.

Mental health is just like physical health. Everyone has it and needs to take care of it.

We all know that to stay healthy we should eat well, exercise, and get a good night’s sleep, but do you know how to look after your mental health?

Here are some ways that you can look after your mental health:

  1. Talk about your feelings/Reach out to friends
Talk to a trusted friend or family member about how you are feeling. Try to avoid bottling up your feelings in the hope that they will go away. This can make the problem worse.
  2. Look after your physical health
If you are eating well, exercising regularly and getting good amounts of sleep, this can help you to feel a lot better. Try to organise going for a walk with a friend, or cook a healthy meal together
  3. Take a break
If you are feeling overwhelmed, remember it is ok to take a break. You might want to take a bubble bath, or try to have 15 minutes without your phone, colour in, sit in nature, etc.
  4. Care for others
When we are kind to others, it can help to make us feel good about ourselves. Offer someone a cup of tea, or smile at someone. These are very simple things which can have a positive lasting effect on how we feel about ourselves.
  5. Ask for help
If you feel that you are struggling and you need to seek further professional help. Do not be afraid to do so. It is very healthy and very normal. You can speak to your GP about the type of support that would suit you.
