BDA Statement: Olly Murs’ Video

“On Friday 7 October, popstar Olly Murs released a video on Instagram to accompany the release of his new song, Die Of A Broken Heart, in which he signed along to the song. The clip was dedicated to “his fans in the Deaf community”.

Unfortunately, Olly appears to have been misinformed by the person who coached him, Isabella Evans, a hearing social media influencer also known as Isabella Signs.

It’s International Week of the Deaf 2022

Ever since 2009, the International Week of Deaf People has been celebrated every year across the world during the last week of September, under the leadership of the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD).The aim of the week is to raise global awareness of issues particularly or disproportionately affecting Deaf communities.

Applications open for UK Government’s BSL Advisory Board

Following the BSL Act legally recognising BSL as a language of England, Scotland and Wales which 151,000 people use, the Government have announced recruitment plans to join their BSL Advisory Board which will see BSL users advising the government on key issues impacting the Deaf community.
