The Cycle To Work scheme is a government supported scheme which aims to encourage more people to ‘cycle to work’.
How does this work?
You will need to choose a bike that is purchased by your employer. The cost of this will then be deducted from your salary and it will be taxed via the Pay As You Earn (PAYE) system.
What does my employer have to do?
To be able to join the Cycle To Work scheme your employer needs to register to join the ‘Cyclescheme’: www.cyclescheme.co.uk/employers
Your employer pays for the bike and any accessories (e.g a helmet, clothing) for cycling. They will also organise for your monthly payments to be made tax-efficiently from your salary.
What can I get?
- Your bicycle – You must agree that 50% of the bike's use is for work-related journeys.
- You can also get a range of accessories which are essential for maintaining your bike and cycling to work. For example, helmets, bike lights, clothing, puncture repair kits, and much more.
