Hi there! Mitchell here from DRP Scotland Transitions. I’m here to talk about the Jock Young Award. Do you remember a while back I put out a video advert encouraging you to nominate people for the Jock Young Award?
There were five different categories for nomination: Education, Sports, Personal Skills, Promoting Scottish Culture, and Deaf Role Models. The panel have had a hard job trying to decide who to choose as their winner, and they want to thank you all for sending in your nominations.
The nominees should all be very proud of their wonderful achievements. It has been challenging to decide on a winner, but we have and here she is:
Erin McCluskey!
Erin was nominated in the Deaf Role Model category for her work as a Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament. She’s worked incredibly hard in this role and has also produced numerous BSL videos encouraging young deaf people and the deaf community to engage in civic life. Additionally she has done some great work in raising Deaf awareness through her training. The panel were delighted to choose her as their winner and would like to congratulate her.
If you are wondering whether this announcement is all we have planned for Erin, fear not. Watch this space for another video soon, where you can see Erin receive her award in person.
Again, we would like to thank everyone for their nominations. We want to encourage those young people who were not fortunate enough to win this time not to give up but to carry on working towards their goals. Who knows, next year it could be you!
See you soon. Goodbye.
